SEATTLE, WA–Lord of the Rings fans are in for a real treat this week as they anticipate the next episode of Rings of Power. Prime Video announced on Monday that the season two finale of the universally beloved series will be a two-hour musical episode, focusing largely on Tom Bombadil, that mysterious man of magic and music.

“We’ve been wanting to do a musical episode since the beginning,” said showrunners Patrick Payne and J. D. McKay. “We really felt it was a good fit for the tone we’re going for. And at this point, we’re honestly just looking for more ways to make the haters mad!”

Kinnear, a longtime veteran of radio and opera, seems especially enthused about the musical role. When asked about his feelings on the project, he exclaimed, “Hey dol! Merry dol! Ring-a-dong dillo!” while wearing yellow boots and performing a jolly dance around Marvelous Movies reporters.

Tom Bombadil won’t be the only character with a singing role, though. Fan-favorite dwarf Disa (Sophia Nomvete) will do a musical song-and-dance number, using her voice to summon an army of bats as her backup dancers. Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Sauron (Charlie Vickers) will perform an angst-ridden, back-and-forth duet. And it’s through song that the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) is expected to finally discover his identity, revealing him once and for all as Radagast the Brown.

Tom’s wife Goldberry will also appear in the finale, portrayed by Raya Yarbrough. Yarbrough’s husband, Bear McCreary, has been cast as Beorn and will verbally sing an original composition of the show’s theme music.

The musical finale will pull in songs from other corners of Lord of the Rings lore, too. Adar and his orc armies will sing a rendition of “Where There’s a Whip (There’s a Way),” first heard in the 1980 Return of the King animated film. And Orlando Bloom is expected to cameo as Legolas to sing the classic feature “They’re taking the hobbits to Isengard!”

“Sure, Legolas wasn’t actually in this story–but when has that ever stopped me before?” Bloom commented.

Due to rising anticipation for the musical episode, Amazon Studios has also greenlit production on Bombadil!, a Broadway musical starring Kinnear and expected to premiere in 2026. Peter Jackson has been brought on to direct, and pre-ticket sales have already outsold those for Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton. “I’m thrilled to get the chance to work on this project,” said Jackson. “And I can’t believe I left this awesome character out of the movies!”

The musical season finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power streams on Prime Video this Thursday.
