BURBANK, CA–Star Wars fans have long hoped for and speculated about the return of fan-favorite character Mace–ever since his in-universe death in 1985. Now, it looks like that might be a possibility. Eric Walker, who famously portrayed Mace Towani in the ewok films Caravan of Courage and The Battle for Endor, has teased that he could be returning to the Star Wars franchise.
As any true Star Wars fan will no doubt remember, Mace and his parents were said to have been killed in an explosion when a group of marauders attacked the ewok village. However, his death was never actually shown onscreen! This means that there’s a good chance Mace could still be out there somewhere, according to popular fan speculation–and to Walker himself.
“Mace’s death was very ambiguous,” Walker posted on his X account last week. “It’s not like he had his arm cut off, got Force-lightninged, and then pushed out a windu–er, window. There’s just no way anyone could come back from that.”
“I’d love to play a student at Rey’s new Jedi school in the next movie,” Walker continued. “Daisy Ridley is an amazing actress, and Kathleen Kennedy is a visionary genius who’s really moved the Star Wars franchise forward! Working with either one of them would be the highlight of my career.”
“Maybe I could even get my good buddy Warwick Davis and all of his ewok friends to come back too!” Walker speculated. “I know another ewok subplot is exactly what Star Wars fans want, and I really feel it’s the one thing that’s been missing from the franchise since 1985.”
Following these online comments, Marvelous Movies scheduled an interview with Walker to further discuss his prospective return. However, Walker cut the interview short due to an urgent phone call. “It’s Kathleen–I’ve got to take this!” he commented. At publishing time, Walker told us he and the ewoks were in talks to make prominent appearances in Star Wars episodes X, XI, and XII.
While Mace’s return seems hopeful, a small but vocal minority of fans would rather see the return of Mace Windu, the second and lesser-known Star Wars character to bear the name “Mace.” Marvelous Movies reporters asked actor Samuel L. Jackson if he felt his own character was being overlooked amid all the popular fan support for Towani. Jackson replied, “I am tired of all these motherf–” before reporters had to censor the remainder of his comment.
