DALLAS, TX–While attending a Saturday matinee showing of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie with his dad, local five-year-old Benjy Burke saw the trailer for the upcoming Animal Farm movie. Featuring CGI-animated talking animals such as pigs, sheep, and horses, the trailer was complete with enough silly puns and slapstick, anatomical humor to get Benny’s attention. “I want to see that one!” Benjy excitedly told his dad.
“The pigs were funny,” Benjy said with a wide grin when asked what appealed to him about the movie. When pressed for further comment, he responded with “I dunno” and later added, “I think I need to go potty!”
“Sure, buddy, we can go see that one too,” said Benny’s father, Harrison Burke, 34. “Looks like a great one for kids!”
“Look, this kid has so much energy, and I’m just looking for ways to keep him entertained on a Saturday,” Burke told Marvelous Movies reporters with a shrug. “So I watch a lot of kids’ movies these days. That’s just my life now. And a kids’ cartoon movie called Animal Farm sounds like it should be harmless enough, right?”
Based on George Orwell‘s 1945 novel, Animal Farm is a haunting dystopian fable about the 1917 Communist revolution in Russia, which later gave rise to fascism under dictator Joseph Stalin. It highlights pointed themes such as government oppression, control of the masses through political propaganda, and the corrupting influence of absolute power.
“Maybe we’ll bring the whole family out for this one,” Burke said. “It should be a fun time.”
Animal Farm hits theaters on May 1.
