LONDON, ENGLAND–Legendary author George Orwell has spoken out from beyond the grave to protest against DC’s upcoming film Wonder Woman 1984. Orwell, author of well-known politically-conscious novels such as 1984 and Animal Farm, has claimed that the newest DCEU installment is a derivative of his own work.

“First, there’s using ‘1984’ in the title,” Orwell explained when pressed for further comment. “It’s taken directly from my own novel. Also, Pedro Pascal is playing the villain–an alliterative name just like Big Brother. And isn’t Wonder Woman herself typically some sort of symbol against oppression and tyranny? The blatant thievery at play here is remarkable, really.”

Upon being informed that the upcoming film has little apparent connection to the dystopian genre, Orwell gasped in confusion. “Seriously? It’s 2020; I just assumed it was a pretty safe bet that the movie would be dystopian.”

“And it’s American-made,” Orwell continued. “Are you telling me that the movie isn’t influenced by the state of your government and media today? Maybe I should just be suing American culture as a whole for ripping off my novel instead.”

Orwell was quick to retract his comments after realizing that Wonder Woman was a DC character, not wanting to be publicly perceived as having influenced or inspired a DC property in any way.

Nonetheless, DC executives are considering changing the name of the film in order to distance themselves from any possible lawsuits or confusion. Since the film takes place decades after the previous film’s World War I setting in a radically different era, the current expected title is Wonder Woman: Brave New World.

The film will be released in December 2020.
