BURBANK, CA–Even on the small screen, the Marvel universe just keeps getting bigger. Amid the rising drama and fan anticipation of Daredevil: Born Again season two, sources at Marvel Studios have confirmed that Nicolas Cage himself will be joining Luke Cage, Daredevil, and others in the season finale, leading to an extended role in season three.
“You know, I’ve just always been a fan of the Luke Cage comics,” Cage (born Nicolas Kim Coppola) told Marvelous Movies reporters in an exclusive interview. “That’s why I chose to name myself Cage.” (That’s really true!) “So I feel very honored to appear alongside this character onscreen.”
“Yeah, really not sure how I feel about this white dude just taking the name of a black character,” said Mike Colter, who plays Luke Cage. “And then he’s also playing Spider-Noir–but noir just means black in French. So now he’s playing ‘Black Spider-Man’ too?”
Reportedly, Nicolas Cage even asked Mike Colter on set if he could play Luke Cage instead–at which point Colter punched Cage in the face.
“Hey, at least I won’t be the most hated member of the team anymore,” commented Finn Jones, who plays the immortal Iron Fist.
It remains unclear in exactly what capacity Cage will appear on Born Again. Most fans believe he’ll be playing Spider-Man Noir, as a lead-in to his upcoming miniseries featuring the character. Other fans hope he’ll be reprising his critically acclaimed role as Ghost Rider, or even as Superman in an ambitious company crossover. Perhaps the most frightening and formidable possibility is that Cage will simply appear as himself, unleashing his uniquely Cage-y craziness against foes such as the Kingpin.
“If I do all of the above, you think they’ll pay me more money?” Cage mused. “I still got to pay off all those castles.” Actor Jon Bernthal insisted that his character, Frank Castle, could not be paid off with any amount of money.
The season finale of Daredevil: Born Again hits DisneyPlus on May 5. Spider-Noir premieres May 25 on MGM+.
