BURBANK, CA–Anticipation is mounting for Avengers: Dunesday, which is on track to become the biggest double feature opening weekend since 2023’s Barbenheimer. Releasing on December 18, the film is actually a mashup collaboration of the existing Avengers and Dune franchises, with an expected total runtime of over 6 hours.

The movie’s premise involves the remaining Avengers facing two new major threats. The villainous Doctor Doom (Robert Downey, Jr.) rises up to menace the heroes, while weapons master Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin) seeks to collect all six Infinity Spices and thus control the universe. The Avengers, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and pretty much everyone who’s ever appeared in a movie must unite to stop these threats!

The story’s main protagonist is Spider-Man (Timothee Chalamet), who has now become the ruler of a distant planet. To form a political alliance, he has married the White Widow (Florence Pugh), but his heart truly remains with his concubine MJ (Zendaya). Amid this growing tension, a few members of the Dreaded Competition–Batman (Robert Pattinson) and Aquaman (Jason Momoa) are conspiring to unseat Spidey from his throne. Batman is in on it probably just so he can get MJ for himself. Oh, The Drama!

“Back in Barbenheimer, I won an Oscar, and Florence Pugh did a nude scene!” Downey enthused in an interview. “If Dunesday is anything like that, then it’ll be great.” Simu Liu will also reprise his role as Rival Ken from Barbenheimer.

Avengers: Dunesday hits theaters on December 18, just in time for the Christmas rush!
