Today we review the visually stunning Dune, the latest space epic from Marvel! Featuring a cast of familiar characters from previous MCU films and more, this story presents a fascinating new world in the ever-expanding Marvel multiverse.
In a clear connection to the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home, Dune features Zendaya as MJ, but living among desert people on an alien planet. No doubt Peter Parker messing with the multiverse inadvertently brought MJ to this alternate reality where everything is a little off. For instance, MJ’s dark-haired, baby-faced, 25-year-old love interest here is named Paul instead of Peter, and is played by Tim instead of Tom. Talk about strange new worlds!
But Paul isn’t the only thing amiss in this new reality. Here, Thanos (Josh Brolin) is a good guy who trains Paul in fighting, while Drax (Dave Bautista) is a bad guy, along with Ant-Man’s friend Kurt (David Dastmalchian). And Aquaman (Jason Momoa) lives not in the ocean but in the desert! And just as we’ve seen Spider-Man’s previous villains return from across the multiverse in the No Way Home trailer, this planet is ruled by the Sandman, whose physical control over the entire desert planet makes him quite a formidable foe. Guess we’re lucky that he’s actually “not a bad person!”
Another remarkable character is Paul’s father, Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), who’s extremely familiar with playing desert-related roles. While a royal duke in this world, Poe tells Paul at one point that he wanted to be a pilot–no doubt a reference to his alternate life as a Resistance fighter pilot. And anyone who remembers The Force Awakens knows that this isn’t Poe’s first time nearly getting killed on a harsh desert planet!
Spoiler warning: Against this sprawling multiversal drama, Marvel also cleverly sets up for future spin-offs just as we’re so used to seeing them do. When Poe meets his death at the hands of enemy spies, we know that his story isn’t truly over. We fully expect future Marvel installments to explain how the desert god Khonshu comes to resurrect Poe’s body and bring him back in Moon Knight (2022).
Dune is a must-see for any Marvel fan who wants to know the larger story of the multiverse. Go see it in theaters!

I really enjoyed Dune, it was epic, and a really good adaptation of the book. So glad that part 2 it going ahead and the saga will be completed.
