OPINION: The long-anticipated release of The Rise of Skywalker is just a week away! Everyone is speculating from every possible angle about where the characters will end up and what new secrets will be revealed. So now is the last chance to get in all of those last-minute fan theories–no matter how crazy they are! Here are some of the most popular theories that seem like they may actually have some weight too. We really hope these all turn out to be true!
4. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ben Kenobi are the same person.
Fans have long thought that Obi-Wan Kenobi from the prequel trilogy and
old Ben Kenobi from A New Hope were connected in some way, and possibly even one and the same. This theory is lent credence by the facts that both men have a beard and the last name of Kenobi, and both were Jedi generals who fought in the Clone Wars. Furthermore, in A New Hope, when the name “Obi-Wan” is mentioned to old Ben, Ben says, “Of course I know him. He’s me!” We hope to see this connection explored further as the Star Wars saga draws to a close. Despite these similarities, though, both characters are played by two different actors, unlike Palpatine and Darth Sidious, who are played by the same person. So instead of being the exact same person, we think maybe Ben and Obi-Wan are long lost brothers or even clones instead!
3. Kylo Ren is the son of Han and Leia.
Although it sounds crazy, we also think that aspiring Sith Lord Kylo Ren may be the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa. This seems to be confirmed in The Force Awakens in which Snoke, speaking to Kylo Ren, refers to Han Solo as “your father.” We also see evidence that Han and Leia have shared a romantic relationship and have had a child together. Leia, when speaking of Kylo Ren, also asks Han to “bring back our boy,” implying that Kylo may be their son. Then again, Kylo does tell Han that “your son is gone” while Kylo is still standing right there, which seems to contradict this theory. Once again, we suspect clones are probably involved. Clones explain everything in Star Wars!
2. Luke is a Skywalker.
Many people have voiced theories about whether or not Rey is a Skywalker, but we’ll do you one better–we think Luke is a Skywalker too! This is strongly hinted at throughout the original trilogy, in which Luke is commonly referred to as Luke Skywalker. In The Empire Strikes Back, Luke is also said to be the son of Anakin Skywalker, which would make “Skywalker” Luke’s last name too! And that claim is corroborated in Revenge of the Sith, when we see Anakin Skywalker’s wife Padme give birth to a son named Luke! It’s all connected! How deep do the levels go, George Lucas?!?
1. The Rise of Skywalker takes place within the Star Wars universe.
This last one may be the kicker. Rather than just being a cool and fun sci-fi movie of its own, we really think that The Rise of Skywalker will take place within the Star Wars universe and share continuity with the other Star Wars films! Although it’s hard to say for certain, this possibility has been heavily implied by the marketing of the movie as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, as well as by the appearance of previous Star Wars characters and settings in the film’s trailers. Admittedly, it would seem pretty crazy to realize that these several disparate movies were all connected in some sort of epic, multimedia, multi-generational crossover, but I guess we’ll see soon enough for sure!
