OXFORD–Great news came this week for hardcore Lord of the Rings fans. The Tolkien Estate is releasing yet another posthumous work by legendary author J. R. R. Tolkien, this one entitled Everything That Happens in The Rings of Power. The work was edited by Simon Tolkien, grandson of J. R. R., from his grandfather’s long-lost notes.
“I’m sure glad I found all of this in my grandfather’s old writings,” commented Simon, who assured Marvelous Movies reporters that he definitely didn’t just forge the writing himself because Amazon offered him a ton of money. “The fans are going to love this side of Middle-earth.”
The book features many previously unexplored aspects of Middle-earth lore, which conveniently seem to coincide with much content of the fan-favorite Amazon series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Simon, who has served as a consultant on the show since 2022, said that the show was based on these yet-unpublished writings of his grandfather’s.
Everything That Happens in the Rings of Power focuses largely on Galadriel, a fiery young warrior, and Disa, wife of dwarf prince Durin IV. The book follows the adventures of Galadriel and Disa, along with the elf Tauriel, as they campaign for women’s empowerment throughout Middle-earth and fight against social injustice.
The book will also focus heavily on Sauron’s backstory, portraying him as a handsome, misunderstood antihero instead of as the menacing villain we see in Tolkien’s later works. Additionally, the new release contains about 200 pages on the history of the races of Middle-earth, confirming that elves, dwarves, and hobbits can all be black.
This latest volume of Tolkien lore is slated for a summer 2024 release, coinciding with the long-awaited second season of The Rings of Power. It’s expected to be embraced wholeheartedly by the entire fandom–and if you don’t like it, then you’re a racist.
