BURBANK, CA–Fans of the Indiana Jones movies are in for a treat this week. Following rumors and much speculation, Disney has announced a reboot of the Indiana Jones franchise. Alden Ehrenreich will star as everyone’s favorite advenuring archaeologist, playing a younger version of the character in what will serve as a prequel to the classic film trilogy (the only three Indiana Jones films ever made up to this point in time!).

“Our obvious first choice was Pedro Pascal,” said Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy in regard to recasting the iconic role. “You can’t really do a movie without him these days. But he turned the role down because young Indiana isn’t a father yet, and there was no small child for him to protect.”

“So Alden was a perfect fit,” Kennedy continued. “He’s already played young Harrison Ford in Solo: A Star Wars Story, and look how big of a hit that was! Fans have been clamoring for more.”

Taking additional cues from the fan-favorite Solo film (2018), Emilia Clarke has been cast as Jones’s lover, Marion Ravenwood. Donald Glover will play Sallah, an ally of Jones, and Joonas Suotamo will play Jones’s close friend Dr. Marcus Brody. Woody Harrelson will appear as Jones’s father, Dr. Henry Jones Sr. Ron Howard has been brought on to direct.

Additionally, Phoebe-Waller Bridge will reprise her roles as both Helena Shaw and the voice of L3-37.

While Kennedy seems confident in the choice to recast the role of Jones, Ehrenreich himself expressed some hesitancy. “I’m not so sure if people liked me as young Han Solo–and now I’m basically doing the same thing again,” he told Marvelous Movies in an interview. “I just wouldn’t want this to put a Stane on my career.”

Nonetheless, at publishing time, Ehrenreich had also signed on for starring roles in both the Blade Runner and Jack Ryan reboots.

Harrison Ford himself seemed more amenable to being replaced by Ehrenreich. “I’m 83, and I don’t have to work another day in my life,” Ford commented. “I think it’s great that Alden is taking over these roles. In fact, I’m gonna go ask him if he wants to play the Red Hulk too!”

Indiana Jones and the Search for the Lost Story Arc is currently slated for a 2027 release.
