Dear Editor,
I’ve been growing very sick of Palpatine’s critics–the people who say that our new chancellor is a dictator or some kind of tyrant. He may not be perfect, but he won that election fair and square, and he’s certainly not the authoritarian dictator his opponents make him out to be. Honestly, those people are grossly overreacting and have a serious case of PDS!
Firstly, we live in the Galactic Republic–a democracy! No Chancellor, including Palpatine, has ever had absolute rule. We have checks and balances in place to prevent any one person from seizing power unilaterally. Palpatine has to work with the Senate and other diplomats to accomplish anything; it’s not like he himself is the Senate or anything like that. Some of Palpatine’s critics need to go back to school and take a refresher course on exactly how this government works.
Secondly, Palpatine’s detractors say that he’s trying to start a war. But it’s clearly the Separatists and the Trade Federation who are gunning for war by blockading peaceful planets like Naboo, our chancellor’s own homeworld. Palpatine, on the other hand, has been trying to shut down Big Trade from day one! The people who say he’s somehow colluding with the Separatists, or even that he’s secretly manipulating both sides to orchestrate the war for his own personal gain, are just ignorant conspiracy theorists, parroting back everything they hear from the mainstream HoloNet.
But worst of all are the people who say that Palpatine is a Sith. Look–I don’t care how many girls in those files say they saw him doing some Sithy stuff 20 years ago. Until it’s actually proven in a court of law, those are just allegations–probably just made up to try to make Palpatine look bad. And, besides, Valroum and his administration were way more corrupt!
Also, we elected a chancellor, a political leader–not a spiritual leader like a Jedi. Nobody expects him to be a perfect person. Even if he does use the Dark Side of the Force once in a while, just look at what he’s done for the economy! We need someone who’ll clean up corruption and excess in the Senate, and despite whatever flaws he may have, Palpatine is undoubtedly the right man for the job.
You’ll see. In 10 or 12 more years once he’s finished his term, Palpatine will go down in history as the greatest leader we’ve ever known–the one who saved our democracy from corruption and made the Republic great again. And then all those stupid Septards and Palpatine-haters will be sorry!
From,
Landod Murpt of Coruscant
