NEW YORK–The once-beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe is receiving a lot of criticism these days, and the upcoming release of Echo is no exception. However, lead character Maya Lopez (a.k.a. Echo) says she isn’t bothered by the critics–because she doesn’t listen to them at all!
“No, I haven’t listened to people’s complaints about the show,” Lopez told Marvelous Movies in an interview. “I’m confident in it, so I don’t need to listen to what others are saying.”
“People have been telling me all my life that I’d never succeed,” said Lopez. “But I don’t listen to any of them. That’s how I keep going.”
Online chatter about the show has been largely skeptical or negative. “Echo looks very unoriginal,” said Marvel fan Tony Masters. “It’s like she’s just watching what other characters do and trying to copy them. Like a mimic, or a parrot.”
Like many recent MCU properties, Echo has also come under fire for going “woke”–featuring a non-white female protagonist with a disability. But this hasn’t seemed to bother Lopez either. “I hadn’t even heard that this was an issue with Marvel,” she added. It seems the people’s complaints against Lopez are falling on deaf ears!
However, while many initial reviews of the show were critical, some critics are now changing their tune, not content to remain in a negative echo chamber. The Television Critics Association wrote, “Contrary to popular expectations, Echo is an amazing show, probably the best of all time. Everyone should watch it!” In completely unrelated news, New York philanthropist Wilson Fisk paid a visit to the TCA’s annual meeting earlier that same day, and several TCA members were later inexplicably hospitalized with various severe injuries.
All episodes of Echo stream on DisneyPlus January 9th.
