BURBANK, CA–Get ready, superhero fans: something big is coming. A recent announcement confirmed that the next Avengers movie will be a Marvel/DC crossover, featuring Superman and his iconic nemesis, Doomsday.

A rebooted Superman film, starring David Corenswet in the title role, will release in summer 2025. The following year, Avengers: Doomsday comes out, which will unite the heroic forces through multiverse portals. The film will feature the remaining Avengers and Superman going up against Doomsday, a nearly invincible monster bent on mindless destruction. In the comics, Doomsday has famously killed Superman.

At the recent San Diego Comic Con, Henry Cavill emerged in the costume of Doomsday, shocking fans with the announcement that he’ll be returning to the DCU in this role.

“The crossover was a mutual decision between the studios,” announced Kevin Feige, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer. “The MCU has been subpar for a while, and the DCEU is officially dead, so we just decided to pool our resources and split the profits.”

“Speak for yourself,” retorted James Gunn, head of DC films. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was awesome!”

Gunn continued, “It’s a time-honored tradition–dating all the way back to 2016–to introduce Doomsday and kill off a new Superman in only his second film appearance. Don’t worry, he’ll come back to life in the next big team movie–which historically has been awesome and universally beloved.”

Eager fans are looking forward to seeing Superman try to lift Thor’s hammer, and to the Hulk fighting Doomsday. However, they’re already whining that it’s just the “nice Hulk” now and they’ll probably get She-Hulk instead.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters in 2025.
