Dozens of fans of Sony’s Spider-Man universe are in for a real treat this fall. The beloved Venom trilogy will conclude with Venom: The Last Dance. Interestingly, though, this will not be Venom’s first time to star in a third movie about dancing.

In 2007, Venom first Graced the big screen in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3–the same movie that starred a symbiote-influenced Bully Maguire doing jazz dances across the streets of New York. The film became an instant fan-favorite, an uncontested critical and commercial success by every metric, praised especially for its original dance numbers. Now Kelly Marcel, director of Venom: The Last Dance, is trying to recapture that same magic.

“Venom as a character works best when he’s fun, footloose, and fancy-free,” Marcel said in an interview. “That’s what we’ve done in the first two Venom movies, by mixing campy humor and awkward romance with slice-and-dice violence. This film will carry on that same tradition. Sam Raimi would be proud.”

Tom Hardy, who stars as Eddie Brock/Venom, confirmed that he’d be doing quite a bit of dancing in this film. He learned ballet, jazz, and waltz dancing in preparation for filming. The plot will involve Venom moving to a small town and trying to overturn the ban on dancing instituted by a local minister. Kevin Bacon is expected to appear in an undisclosed role.

Marcel–perhaps best known for writing the film Fifty Shades of Gray–was also influenced by another personal favorite film of hers. “Magic Mike’s Last Dance came out last year, so that’s where I got the idea for the title. Eddie’s dances in this movie will take a lot of cues from Magic Mike. Let’s just say the symbiote gets very creative with how much of Eddie it needs to cover.”

This won’t be the first time Sony’s Spider-Man universe is taking cues from erotic movies like Fifty Shades of Gray, as franchise star Dakota Johnson starred in the critically acclaimed Madame Web. But some fans believe that borrowing influence from Magic Mike’s Last Dance could be a major Gambit for Marvel.

Venom: The Last Dance swings into theaters October 25th.
