BURBANK, CA–The recent trailer for Marvel’s new animated series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, has been generating buzz by introducing new and updated characters into the Spider-Man mythos. Besides new takes on Norman and Harry Osborn, the trailer highlights an original character named Peter Parker. As no fans seem able to remember a character named Peter Parker ever before being featured in Spider-Man comics or media, many are wondering exactly what role he’ll play in the story.

Based on the trailer, Peter Parker appears to be an average teenager with glasses, a classmate of Spider-Man’s longtime friend Harry. But longtime fans of Spidey lore are speculating about more significant roles for him.

“He could be connected to May Parker, like a nephew or something,” said Jerry Netherlands of New York. “You may remember May Parker as the woman the Green Goblin killed in Spider-Man: No Way Home. That happened around the middle of the movie–but strangely enough, I can’t seem to remember much about the ending!”

“They’re definitely scraping the bottom of the barrel,” commented Vaughn Brianson of Ohio. “I mean, they’ve got Nico Minoru in the main cast, as if anyone actually cares about The Runaways. But I’ve been reading comics since I was a kid, and I still don’t know who Peter Parker is.”

“What if he’s, like, a clone of Spider-Man, or some kind of alternate universe variant?” asked comic collector Reilly O’hara. “With all the crap Marvel’s putting out these days, it could be literally anything.”

Not all fans of Spidey lore are excited for this new addition. “The comics are already rich with lots of well-developed stories and characters,” said Lee Stevens. “So why do these shows always feel the need to add in new characters who were never in the comics?”

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will allegedly feature the infamous vigilante attending school, likely struggling to balance his academic responsibilities with his crimefighting ones. It remains to be seen how a full-time crimefighter will fit in among normal school students, especially since–unlike many masked heroes–Spider-Man has no known dual identity out of costume.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man premieres January 29 on DisneyPlus.

One response to “‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Trailer Introduces Brand New Character, Peter Parker”

  1. MCU needs to figure out how to make new characters if they’re going to. Sure, it’s nice they’re stepping in the right direction by making a new spider-man character but just a random highschool teenager? it literally doesn’t make sense. Sure, spidey in school is an okay concept but if they’re going to make new characters at least give them something interesting. Knowing them though, this parker fella is probably just going to be some loser nerd that solves spider-man’s problems for him (like making the suit and webs) to try and force the audience into enjoying this character.
