ENGLAND–Marvel’s Eternals has begun setting up actor Kit Harington to take over the role of the Black Knight. This lesser-known Avenger made his comic book debut in 1967 and was subsequently portrayed by John Cleese in 1975’s Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Nipping at the heels of Cleese’s legendary portrayal, Harington will be the second actor to bring him to life on the big screen.
“I don’t think Kit can top my comedic portrayal of the Black Knight,” Cleese stated in an interview. “I was a great Dane, but he’s just got no wit, man.”
A real-life descendant of English royalty, Harington believes his family heritage will give him an advantage in the role. “You know nothing, John Cleese!” Harington reportedly told his predecessor at a meeting. The 82-year-old Cleese found the comment disarming and was left without a leg to stand on.
Marvel’s Eternals and the Holy Grail is currently slated for a 2024 release. Harington is expected to carry the film single-handedly.
