BURBANK–Following the conclusion of the successful series X-Men ’97 on DisneyPlus, Marvel has more exciting things in store for fans. Due to popular demand, they’ve announced another revival of a previous animated series: Spider-Man ’84, which will pick up where Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends left off in the early eighties.

The original voice cast from Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends have all signed on to return. Frank Welker, best known for his roles in Scooby-Doo and Aladdin, will reprise his role as Iceman. Dan Gilvezan will return as Spider-Man.

Viewers of the original series are eager to see the return of fan-favorite character Firestar (voiced by Kathy Garver). Firestar is unquestionably the most popular character ever to originate in an animated series but later be adapted into comics. In fact, she’s the Quinn-tessential character of that description; Harley anyone else compares!

The internet is abuzz with excited fan comments, including “Wait, I thought Firestar was in the Teen Titans,” and “Why’d they make the Human Torch a girl?”

“I’m really hoping they resolve the cliffhangers from the original show,” said longtime fan Drake Roberts of New York. “For instance, now that Iceman is gay in the comics, will he be gay in the eighties too? Will there be a love triangle where Iceman and Firestar are both interested in Spidey?”

Spider-Man ’84 will see the three heroes go up against classic villains, like Electro, Dr. Doom, and Big Brother. Interestingly, it also isn’t the first piece of superhero media in recent years to be set in 1984 as a period piece. Like the feature film Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), this series is expected to be embraced by fans as an unqualified success!

Spider-Man ’84 will premiere in 2025, only on Disney Plus.
