LOS ANGELES, CA–In a breaking announcement made this week, Marvel executives announced to fans that they will be rebooting the Spider-Man film franchise following the success of this summer’s Spider-Man: Far From Home and searching to start fresh with a new lead actor and storyline.

“It’s been over three years since Spider-Man was last rebooted,” noted Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige at a press conference, referring to the debut of Tom Holland’s portrayal of the character in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. “In that time, he’s appeared in not only two solo movies, but also three total Avengers-franchise movies. I mean, sure, he’s been a fun Spider-Man, and those movies have been great box office successes, but don’t you think it’s about time for a fresh new direction for the character? Especially now that his secret identity has been exposed to the world. Why does that keep happening, anyway?”

Feige also voiced concerns about the actor’s current age. “Tom Holland is 23 already,” he explained. “Isn’t he a little old to be playing a teenager convincingly? We really want someone who’s actually a lot closer to the age of the character. For the reboot I’m really hoping we can get one of those kids from Stranger Things. They just had a great third season, and, hey, I mean, they’re actual teenagers! Or, better yet, maybe even the little boy from Young Sheldon. Sure, it might take him a few years to grow into the role, but then at least we’d get to keep him around for a while!”

“Maybe even Robert Pattinson,” Feige continued to speculate. “Yeah, he’s a little older, but he’s had a lot of success with tween drama movies. Who knows if he could maybe play a superhero too?”

Feige also expressed interest in having Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone appear in the new film in the roles of Uncle Ben and Aunt May, as a subtle homage to the old Amazing Spider-Man films of a bygone generation.

The yet-untitled Spider-Man reboot is expected to premiere sometime in 2020. It is also expected to be the sole film in the franchise before the character gets rebooted yet again in 2021.
