BURBANK, CA–Marvel executives have leaked some exciting news for the upcoming Hawkeye series on DisneyPlus. Surprising many fans, the series will feature Alan Alda of M*A*S*H returning as Hawkeye, alongside Daniel Day-Lewis of Last of the Mohicans reprising his role as Hawkeye. Additionally, Jeremy Renner stars as Hawkeye, and Hailee Steinfeld will portray the role of Hawkeye.
These cast additions confirm what many fans have long suspected: both the popular wartime series M*A*S*H and classic American novels including The Deerslayer are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe canon!
The series is expected to detail how Captain Benjamin Franklin “Hawkeye” Pierce got frozen in ice at the end of the Korean War but, like most soldiers in the Marvel universe, is found and revived in modern times. In a completely non-controversial move, digital effects will be used to de-age the 85-year-old Alda for the role.
Author James Fenimore Cooper has been brought on from beyond the grave to consult on the script. Actress Alaqua Cox, who will portray deaf superheroine Echo/Maya Lopez, has joined Mark Twain in criticizing Cooper’s stereotypical portrayal of Native Americans. However, Cox did comment that she’s thankful her character can’t hear any of Cooper’s terrible dialogue.
Other cast members have also voiced uncertainty about the show’s new direction. “I’m playing the female version in a show about several alternate versions of the same character,” said actress Hailee Steinfeld, who portrays Hawkeye/Kate Bishop. “It honestly sounds kind of weird and definitely not like anything else I’ve ever done for Marvel before.”
Hawkeye: Into the Hawkeyeverse premieres November 24th on DisneyPlus.
