REVIEW–Today we review Marvel’s latest film: Sherlock Holmes in the Multiverse of Mystery! This bold new venture is the first to combine various Sherlock Holmes characters from multiple existing universes. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock, Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Dr. John Watson.
The plot begins when Sherlock from the BBC universe (Cumberbatch) attends Irene Adler’s wedding–only to realize that it’s not his Irene, but the Irene from the Guy Ritchie films (McAdams)! The two are sent on a multiverse-spanning adventure where they’re also joined by Dr. John Watson (Ejiofor), reprising his role from Sherlock Gnomes. And soon, the game is afoot!
The film also features other prominent characters from some of Sherlock’s greatest adventures! Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) from “A Study in Scarlet Witch” plays a major role as a grieving mother who turns to the dark arts to try to reclaim her lost children. And we see the return of brilliant young scientist Dr. Richards from “The Sign of the Four” and “The Hound of the Baxter-villes.”
Bruce Campbell also makes a surprising cameo as Condiment King, a known DC Comics villain. The creators really mustered up their courage to bring in such an obscure character!

After seeing these different universes collide, fans are hoping for even more Holmesian crossovers from Marvel in the future! Maybe another universe’s Watson, such as Martin Freeman or Jude Law, could appear in a Marvel film. Or maybe even another Sherlock, such as the one from the Guy Ritchie films! Can you imagine seeing that guy as a Marvel superhero?
Then again, some fans have noted that the Spider-Man universe films featuring Professor Moriarty (Rhys Ifans or Jared Harris) have been especially underwhelming. Jared Harris recently appeared in one such film which had two Jareds too many.

Overall, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Mystery is a great, fun-filled film! That you should go see it is elementary.
