BURBANK, CA–Following the overwhelming success of The Little Mermaid, Disney has announced plans for its next live-action remake: Woke Beauty, an adaptation of the 1959 animated film Sleeping Beauty.

The story stars Aurora, a princess who uses her political influence to fight for social justice. But on her 16th birthday, a white witch named Malignorant curses Aurora so she becomes un-woke, prejudiced, and privileged. The curse can only be removed by a true love’s kiss with full written consent from Princess Philippa, a black transgender lesbian with a disability.

Beloved actress Brie Larson will star as Princess Aurora, while Gina Carano will play the politically incorrect witch. Sophia Nomvete, of recent acclaim for her role on The Rings of Power, has been cast as Philippa. Additionally, Laura Dern will appear as Flora, Aurora’s purple-haired fairy godmother. Visionary filmmaker Kathleen Kennedy will produce and direct.

The film is expected to end with Aurora and Philippa denouncing their privileged royal upbringing and choosing to live together in a struggling minority neighborhood instead. But not before they pass legislation requiring Critical Race Theory to be taught in all the schools of the kingdom.

“I’m excited to be part of this project,” Larson told Marvelous Movies in an interview. “Making the movie woke was a great choice. But isn’t ‘Beauty’ still a misogynistic term? Disney is naming a woman by her physical appearance and making that her sole identity. They should probably be canceled for that, honestly.”

Woke Beauty hits theaters in 2025. At publishing time, Brie Larson had been fired for being white and replaced with Kelly Marie Tran.
