BURBANK, CA–It really is the season of fan-favorite characters from the 2000s returning in modern media! Fans of the 2003 Daredevil movie should be particularly excited. Not only did the film receive renewed recognition by including Foggy Nelson and Elektra in Deadpool & Wolverine, but Colin Farrell is also returning as Bullseye for a gritty TV series following the iconic villain.

The series will follow Bullseye, once known as an expert assassin with perfect aim. But 20 years later, Bullseye has really let himself go, followed the Kingpin’s dietary regimen a little too closely, and become morbidly obese. When a Stormtrooper beats him in a shooting contest, Bullseye knows he has to do something to get his mojo back. The series will follow Bullseye’s attempts to get back in shape and compete for the Olympic gold medal in shooting while also working his way through the criminal underworld in a quest to reclaim the power and respect he once had!

After seeing promo images of the series, some fans have noted that an obese Farrell in a suit looks derivative of classic Batman villain the Penguin. Executive producer Matt Reeves, who also directed The Batman, was undeterred by the criticism. “Who knows what could happen with this character?” Reeves said in an interview. “Maybe he’ll get to fight Daredevil and Batman.” Ben Affleck was unavailable for comment.

However, as this is a Bullseye-focused series, it’s unlikely to feature other related characters such as Daredevil or Kingpin. And, despite the interconnectedness of the Marvel/Disney world, members of Bullseye’s old gang–Woody, Jessie, and Stinky Pete–likely won’t appear in this series either. Nonetheless, Clancy Brown will reprise his role as Colonel Ray Schoonover from the hit Daredevil Netflix series. Theo Rossi will also return as Hernan “Shades” Alvarez, previously seen as a villain in Luke Cage.

The Bullseye series will foreshadow next year’s highly anticipated Daredevil: Born Again, where a rejuvenated Bullseye will menace Daredevil and his allies. Fans expect he’ll take a page out of the comics by taking a Page out of Daredevil’s book.

Bullseye premieres on DisneyMax in September.
