OPINION – Until recently, Darth Sidious was widely viewed as the most powerful Sith Lord of all time. He abolished democracy, removed the civil rights of every being in the galaxy, started three ruinous wars that costs billions of beings their lives, forced the young monk he was mentoring into a constrictive mask, and forced millions of stormtroopers into wearing masks as well. Then, Darth Plagueis lived up to his name and unleashed a plague on us all.

Darth Plagueis shut down the world economy and cost millions of people their jobs. Worse yet, he prevented people from enjoying things like eating in restaurants or attending movie theaters, triggering the worst Constitutional crisis in years when the Black Widow release date was pushed back several months. Darth Plagueis forced people to endure the inconvenience of removable face masks, and inspired countless cheesy advertisements from mega-rich corporations affirming they know what it’s like for the rest of us experiencing the hardships of the pandemic.
Both Sith Lords are among the most evil beings ever to have existed. It is fitting, then, that Sidious learned all he knew from Plagueis. However, in the final analysis, there is very little competition. Sidious was a genocidal, war-profiteering tyrant. But Darth Plagueis reeeeaaaaaaaalllllllyyyyyyy personally inconvenienced us, proving that he’s like ten thousand times worse than Sidious.
