BURBANK, CA–The rumor mill has been abuzz about the casting for the MCU’s upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. While a lot of different names have been flying around, a source within Marvel recently leaked their shortlist online! Here are the top contenders for each major role–and our thoughts on what could have inspired these choices.
Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic:
- Gina Carano. Up to this point, the top rumors had included several actors from Disney-era Star Wars: Adam Driver, Pedro Pascal, and Diego Luna (really)! So it seems like Gina Carano, the beloved and non-controversial actress who played Cara Dune, is the next logical choice!
- Danny DeVito. Director Matt Shakman has stated that his work on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will influence Fantastic Four. So it seems like Danny DeVito, longstanding veteran of the popular sitcom, will be the perfect choice for recognizing Shakman’s vision!
- Some guy from The Office. And as long as sitcom actors are in the running, Marvel might as well pick some guy who was on The Office for a while there. For instance, Steve Carell and Rainn Wilson would both be great as Reed Richards. Or would this be too much of a stretch?
Sue Storm/Invisible Woman:
- John Cena. Since you can’t see him anyway, this seems like a very fitting choice.
- Amber Heard. No explanation needed. She’s a natural pick!
- Lizzo. This would be perfect casting, obviously. She really looks the part of Sue Storm.
Johnny Storm/Human Torch:
- Ezra Miller. Miller is great at playing young, impetuous superheroes. We foresee zero possible problems or backlash from casting them in a Marvel role.
- Robert Downey, Jr. We all know that every Human Torch actor so far has gone on to have other great MCU roles (Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan). So it only stands to reason to pick an already established MCU actor. And what better way to bring RDJ back to the MCU?
- Nicolas Cage. If we’re looking for someone with experience playing a Marvel character named “Johnny” whose head is on fire…well, Cage is the obvious pick.
Ben Grimm/The Thing:
- Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson. He’s already a rock, so this one seems obvious. It’s like the jokes just write themselves.
- Michael Cera. Some fans may be skeptical of this choice, but hey, he’s got range.
- Jessica Alba. Alba’s casting would be a respectful homage to the classic Fantastic Four films of a bygone era. Undoubtedly Alba’s return would be just as beloved and exciting for fans as Tobey Maguire’s return was in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Doctor Doom:
- Orlando Bloom. As we all know, most elves from Middle Earth turn into Marvel villains eventually. Therefore, the obvious choice is Orlando Bloom–or, as we’re probably gonna call him now, Orlando Doom.
- Jodie Whittaker. And the same is true of Time Lords! What’s up with former Time Lords always turning into supervillains too? But, since she’s already a Doctor, it seems like she’s halfway to Doctor Doom!
- Topher Grace. He’s played an iconic Marvel villain before, and he was an excellent and not-at-all criticized choice then. ‘Nuff said!
